Escape Attempt in Hatay Prison; 3 Convicts Died!

In the incident where some convicts and detainees attempted to escape by setting a fire in Hatay T Type Closed Prison, 3 of the 12 convicts who were injured died.

Following the images shared on social media, the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice made a statement on the subject.

In the press release, it was stated that the necessary intervention was made within the framework of the legislation and that 12 convicts and detainees were injured in the incidents.

It was stated that 3 convicts and detainees died from the wounded who were taken to the hospital.

There was a need to make a press release regarding the allegations about Hatay T Type Closed Prison, which appeared in some media outlets and social media platforms. Due to the fact that some convicts and detainees in Hatay T Type Closed Prison attempted to escape and then started a fire; In order to prevent escape, extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the detainees and convicts in the penitentiary institution, necessary interventions were made within the framework of the legal legislation.

As a result of the intervention, the escape attempt was prevented, the fire was extinguished, and the security of the detainees and convicts was ensured. During the intervention to the events, 12 judicial convicts and detainees were injured, and 3 of the injured who were transferred to the hospital died. Inspectors of the Ministry of Justice and controllers of the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses were appointed by our Minister of Justice to investigate the incident, and a judicial and administrative investigation was initiated. Allegations of rape of female convicts/detainees in the penitentiary institution and other baseless accusations are completely untrue. As a result of the aforementioned events, the convicts and detainees were transferred to other penitentiary institutions due to the destruction of the penitentiary institution by the convicts and detainees.
