How to Iron? All Ironing Tips!

Ironing is a difficult and repulsive job for most of us. Different fabrics need to be ironed at different temperatures; There are some ironing techniques that need to be applied for items such as shirts and trousers, some wrinkles are difficult to open, the steam setting varies according to the type of fabric. Because of such details, even experienced housewives have difficulties in this job, not just novices. Learning about the tricks of ironing both makes the job easier and prevents wasting more time than necessary. Here are some tips to make ironing a hassle:

Dry the Laundry in a Way That Makes It Easy to Iron

  • If you are using a tumble dryer, dry the clothes to be ironed by setting the machine to the ironing setting. In this case, the laundry comes out of the machine a little more moist and therefore less wrinkled. This makes ironing easier.
  • If you are drying the laundry by hanging it, do not forget to stretch and shake it before hanging it. Clothes that are hung neatly are easier to iron. It would be good to hang the washed laundry immediately without waiting in the machine. If they are left in the machine for a long time, they will become very wrinkled and smell.
  • Preparations Before Starting Ironing

Group the clothes to be ironed. (Skirts, shirts, t-shirts, trousers, etc.)

  • Will you do the iron standing up or sitting down? Adjust the height of the ironing board accordingly.
  • Do the ironing in a place where you can clearly see the items to be ironed.
  • Make sure the ironing board cover is thick enough and clean. Also check if the soleplate of the iron is clean.
  • In order not to waste time commuting, prepare the apparatus such as the chair to be stacked and the hanger to hang the ironed goods.
  • If you place aluminum foil under the fabric of the ironing board, the creases of the other side will also open, as the foil will conduct heat.
  • Set up an ironing cloth for clothes sewn from fabrics that can shine, such as silk, wool, and velvet.

When Putting Water on the Iron

  • Fill the iron with water before plugging it in.
  • Close the steam control knob completely in case of water leakage.
  • Do not pour the water into the iron suddenly, you may cause it to overflow. Tilt the iron slightly and slowly pour the water through the filling hole.
  • If you want the laundry to smell good, you can add a small amount of essential oil to the ironing water.

Ironing Tips

If there are large items to iron, start with them. Lay a sheet or blanket on the floor so that they do not touch the floor.
Adjust the temperature of the iron according to the type of fabric. If the garment has an ironing instruction, follow it. In general, synthetic, synthetic blended and silk fabrics should be ironed at low and medium temperatures, woollens should be ironed at medium or high temperatures, and linen and cotton should be ironed at high temperatures.
If you can’t be sure that the temperature of the iron is suitable for the fabric you are ironing, test the temperature on a part of the garment that is inside or not too damaged.

Tips for Ironing Shirts

  • First, the sleeves and cuffs are ironed. Lay the cuff of the shirt on the ironing board with the inside facing up and iron it by pressing it a little. After turning the outer side and ironing it, lay the sleeve of the shirt on the table and straighten it. In the meantime, make sure that the seamed part comes down. This reduces the chances of double lines on the arms. After you finish ironing by moving the iron of the appropriate temperature over the arm, iron the back side as well. Now it’s time to iron the part between the cuff and the arm. For this, join the 2 ends of the cuff together and hang the cuff forward so that the pleats lie. Then press the iron over the pleats, being careful not to touch the cuff button.
  • After the sleeves of the shirt, it is necessary to iron the shoulder part. The easiest way to iron the shirt shoulder is to first pass the back of one of the shoulders to one of the edges of the table and run the iron over it. Then, without removing the shirt from the ironing board, carefully grasp it and turn it so that the other shoulder is in the same place and iron it as well. Then iron the front of the shoulders on the table, taking care not to touch the collar buttons and the other buttons of the shirt.
  • After ironing the two sides of the arms and shoulders in the shirt ironing process, it is time to iron the front and back bodies. Start by placing the unbuttoned part of the shirt on the table and ironing that area. Then pull the ironed part towards you, being careful not to crease the sleeves, and iron over the seam on the side. Iron the back of the shirt by continuing to pull the shirt in the same way. If you’re ironing a shirt with pleats on the back, pull it down to reveal the pleats. After straightening the battery with your hand, press the iron to the top. Then continue to pull the shirt towards you and iron it to the other side. Here, be careful not to let the iron touch the buttons.
  • The last part of the shirt to be ironed is the collar. To iron the collar, first place it upside down on the ironing board with the unlabeled part facing you. After ironing well, turn the other side and iron it. Press the iron more in this part so that the interlining inside the collar lies. If you want to line the neckline, curl it as necessary. Bring each half forward by pressing the iron lightly. Thus, you will give the collar a proper shape.

HOW TO IRON FABRIC TROUSERS? HOW IS THE LINE CHARGED?

First, take out the pockets. Then, determine the seam marks of the fabric trousers, place the seams parallel to each other and start ironing. You can complete the ironing process by ironing the inner part of the lower leg first and then the outer part of the upper leg. Do not forget to apply the steam intensively to define the lines of the trousers.
