RE – ENTRY BAN FOR OVERSTAYING IN TURKEY
An entry ban is imposed to the foreign nationals who are staying in Turkey illegally when they don’t have valid visa or a valid residence permit.
In case of an overstay of less than 10 days, no entry ban will be imposed. Moreover “entry ban order will not be issued against the foreigners who exceed the duration of visa, visa exemption or residence permit for more than ten days and arrive at the border gates to exit before a removal decision is taken against them. However, the foreigners who violate the mentioned durations of visa, visa exemption, work permit or residence permit will pay a fine.” (For more information you may consult to the Ministry of Interior Directorate General of Migraion Management –Frequently Asked Questions about Foreigners.)
The Length of ban is approximately corresponds to the length of overstayed period. Notification about the entry ban period and the administrative fine is issued at the border gates. In case of failing to pay imposed administrative fine, a foreign national might be barred to enter Turkey for five years period.
Maximum duration of an entry ban to Turkey is five years. “The entry ban to Turkey for foreigners whose visa or residence permit has expired and who has applied to the governorates to exit from Turkey before their situation is established by the competent authorities upon which a removal decision has been taken, shall not exceed one year.” (Art.9/4 Law no 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection)
Entry ban might be lifted in case the overstayed person applies to the Turkish missions abroad for the relevant type of visa. Applications are forwarded to the Turkish Ministry of Interior for approval and the visa can be issued upon the affirmative instructions of the Ministry.

Hi, I am married to a Turkish citizen and I overstayed my tourist visa. I exited turkey on 12/02/2020 and I payed my fine and they said I am not allowed to go in the country for 3 months. I am in the U.K. now and I have applied for my residence permit. I am waiting for my appointment date. I am thinking of going back to turkey on 12/08/2020 next month. Will I get stopped at the airport?? Will there be a problem?? Will I be allowed in the country ??
I recently got back from turkey to the UK July 11th of course due to Corona I overstayed my visa, which was due to end July 2nd, when would I be allowed to enter turkey again I have a flight booked August 16th will I be allowed to go because of course it wasn’t my fault Corona prevented me from getting home after my one weeks holiday. Please help no one is replying to emails from consulates.
Hello,
As you overstayed your visa you should stay abroad for three months before reentering Turkey. If you enter the country earlier you can face problems at the airport. In most cases foreigners who enter Turkey before three months passes are entering Turkey conditionally and must apply for residence permit within 10 days upon their arrival. In this case you must stay within the country until receiving residence permit card, otherwise you can be banned to reenter Turkey for up to five years.

Hello thank you for all the information you’ve given, it’s been really helpful. I just need a little clarification for my situation. So my e-visa expired in April and I haven’t been able to leave the country because of the Pandemic, I’m supposed to be schooling in Milan and the have only been available recently and I plan to go back soon. Are there any consequences I’ll have to face?
Thank you

Okay thank a lot for that info! Just one more clarification. So since I’m well within those 30 days and I’m planning to leave Turkey on the 10th, would you advise that once I’m at the airport I go straight to passport control or do you think I have to stop by immigration/visa violation first of all?
Thank you
Hello,
In October 2017 i visited turkey and stayed 4 months – till Feb 2018 – (for an Exchange program) under student visa. But unfortunately I didn’t issue a resident permit at that time and I wasn’t aware of the 90 days in 180 days, so before my 90 days visa expires I left the country and came back again with new visa expecting that it will be again 90 days.
When I was leaving the country I informed that I overstay for some days.. and I paid 70 tl fine.
So does this makes me ban from Turkey if I want to apply for visa now?
Regards,
Hello,
As you paid the fine and were not informed about entry ban, you are allowed to reenter Turkey with new visa.

Hello,
Foreigners, who attend language courses, which are accredited by the Ministry of Education can apply for extension of the residence permit. Extension of residence permit can be granted for as long as the course will be continued. Language school must provide an applicant adequate documents stating duration of the course. However, please, be informed that there is no guarantee that residence permit application would be approved on this basis.

Hello, I am an American citizen who entered Turkey on March 10th on a research visa. My 90 day period has expired yesterday and I have not applied for a residency permit yet. Will I be allowed to apply for a residency permit after the 90 day period has passed? If not, what course of action would you recommend I take?
Hello,
You can not apply for residence permit after your visa has already expired. In order to be eligible for application you need to leave and reenter Turkey. You will need to pay a fine for overstaying your visa while leaving the country however due to the fact that boarders are currently closed you may not be requested to pay a fine.
