Favorite of Seferihisar; Samsades – Discover Turkish Dessert
This time, we are guests in the kitchen of Seferihisar, one of the delightful districts of Izmir. This delicious Samsades, which most people will hear for the first time, is like a hidden gem. It is not known whether its name is affable, its ingredients are scarce, or it has plenty of cinnamon compared to classic sherbet desserts, this recipe made us love it!
Materials of Samsades;
- 3 cups flour
- 2 glasses of water
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 4 tablespoons of unsalted curd cheese
- 1.5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Liquid oil
For the syrup:
- 2.5 glasses of water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4-5 drops of lemon juice
Preparation of Samsades;
- First, take the flour in a bowl and add the salt.
- Add 1.5 cups of water to the flour.
- Add flour and water cautiously and knead until it reaches a non-sticky earlobe consistency.
- Let the dough rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Divide the rested dough into two equal meringues and thin the meringues.
- Form a rectangular shape by straightening the edges of the thinned dough.
- Cut it into 3-4 cm strips and then cut your strips in half horizontally down the middle.
- For the filling, mix the curd cheese, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl by crushing them.
- Place the curd cheese mortar on the ends of the strips you have prepared and wrap them in the form of an amulet.
- Fry the dough that you have given the shape of amulets in hot oil.
- For the syrup, put water, sugar and cinnamon in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- When the sherbet boils, squeeze the lemon to extract it.
- Add the fried hot amulets to the hot syrup and remove it without waiting too long. Bon Appetit…
Samsades is tasty enough, but when you serve it with cream and almonds, it will have a much stronger flavor.
