In order for foreign students to receive university education in Turkey, they must take language proficiency exams and obtain the proficiency score required by the university. Students who cannot get the required score in the language proficiency exams receive language preparation training for one (1) year. After these trainings, students who provide language proficiency are entitled to enter the department courses in university programs.

Residence permit

Foreign students who want to study at university in Turkey must obtain a residence permit. Residence permits are issued by the Migration Administration in the cities where they live. According to the relevant law, foreign students must obtain a residence permit within one (1) month after entering Turkey.

Residence permits of foreign students are renewed every year.

Health insurance

It is necessary to have a health insurance that will be valid in Turkey and will fully cover the health expenses of the student.     1. Hello, you don’t need to get student residence permit for applying university. You can register university while you have residence. But you have to go Immigration Authortiy to change your residence type when unversity accept your register.

So to clarify, there is no need to get a Student Visa in advance – instead a person can first go to Turkey on a tourist visa, obtain a short term residence permit for tourism, and then apply/enrol in a university (without any need to return to the home country to get a student visa from the Turkish Embassy). Is that correct?
