However, foreign students who are enrolled in associate degree or undergraduate programs in Turkey are given the right to work no more than 30 hours a week following the first year of studies.

Work permits granted to the foreign students do not terminate the valid student residence permit and the rights granted by this residence permit. Procedures and principles regarding the employment of foreign students are determined by the Ministry by taking the opinions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and by taking into consideration the principles determined by the Immigration Policies Committee.

In the event that the foreigners who completed their higher education in Turkey apply for a work permit within one year as of their graduation date, the application shall be evaluated in accordance with the principles determined by the International Labour Policy Advisory Board.

Important: Please be informed that foreign students who granted state scholarship in Turkey during the Bachelor degree are not able to get work permit after the graduation even if their type of residence permit has been changed to the short term residence permit.

  2. Hello,
I am a Computer Science Master student from Germany. I got accepted for an Erasmus Semester in Istanbul next year and I will receive a scholarship for Erasmus. Right now I am working as working student (less than 20 hours per week) for a company in Germany (which has a branch in Turkey aswell). Am I allowed to work for the same company from Turkey remotely? If yes, do I have to do something in order to be allowed to work in Turkey?
Thank you for your answer 🙂

As a Master student you are allowed to get work permit in Turkey and work here legally, but firstly your employer should get a work permit for you by applying to the Ministry of Labour.

  6. I’m an international undergraduate student currently in my 3rd year. I want to work parttime, do i require a work permit? and if yes, if it possible for me to obtain one?

    1. Hello,
Undergraduate students are not allowed to work in Turkey. You can be eligible for work permit during graduate studies under condition that you have not been receiving state scholarship during your education within Turkey. Once you find job in Turkey your future employer must apply for your work permit. Foreigners can not apply for work permit in their own name or without having a job in Turkey.

      Kind Regards,

    1. Hello,
If you find an employer in Turkey they can apply for work permit on your behalf. Foreigners can not apply for work permit in their own name or without having a job in Turkey. Application for foreigner who has residence permit valid in total for at least 6 months can be done within Turkey. Work permit can be directly obtained on basis of your student residence permit under condition that you were not receiving state scholarship during Bachelor’s degree in Turkey.

Foreigners are allowed to establish a business in Turkey with minimum registered capital of 10.000 TL, however in order to obtain work permit as a company owner paid capital must be at least 100.000 TL and you must employ 5 Turkish citizens per each foreigner in the company. After graduation you have a right to transfer your student residence permit to short term residence permit for graduates, which can be granted for one year.
