What are the steps and process to be consider?
Can they get resident permit when they got settle?
Thank you so much.

Dear Hasibullah,
Thank you for your comment.
As there is no separate type of residence permit for families of students in Turkey, you parents can apply for short-term residence permit independently. From 10th of April 2018, foreigners who would like to get short term tourist residence permit from İstanbul should be notified regarding the changes at the process:
– residence permit which was previously given for 2 years have been reduced to 6 months to 1 year
– foreigners should certify their income for the last 6 months by providing bank statement ( from abroad or locally)
– short term tourist residence permit could be obtained only once with no possibility of extension
In regards to the extension of residence permit, foreigner who are in the scope of below criterias, their residence permit will be extended;
– owners of the property in Turkey
– spouse of Turkish citizen
– family members of foreigner having work permit in Turkey
– foreigners who can certify their income from abroad for the last 6 months and the reason of staying in Turkey

I have a student residency permit due to expire in August, what is the process of renewal ? What documents do i need to come up with ?
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
You can start extension procedure two months before the expiration of your current residence permit. Student residence permit can be extended only if you can provide documents from school/university, proving that you are going to continue education in Turkey.

Hello!
I will be studying in Turkey as Erasmus student. I will apply for student visa soon. My plan was to fly to Turkey and travel from there to some other countries before school begins. I read that if I apply for residence permit, I’m not allowed to travel anywhere outside Turkey while the process is still going on. Is it possible that I fly to Turkey, take one or two weeks of holiday and after I return back I will apply the residence permit without the need for renewing my student visa? Thank you in advance!
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
As long as your visa is valid, you can leave Turkey and come back and there would be no problem. After your visa expiration you should not leave before finishing the application process. Also, you can apply for residence permit as long as your visa is valid, there is no need to apply directly after arrival. Just keep in mind that the process can last up to 3-4 months so if you are going to stay in Turkey only for one semester it is better to start it as soon as possible.
Best Regards

Hi There!
I have this query, whether my mother can accompany me to Turkey on any visa class for the whole period of
my study while having received my student residence permit?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
For some countries it is possible to obtain accompany visa to enter Turkey but after arrival your mother would still need to apply for independent residence permit and fulfill all of the requirements for this kind of document.

Hello,
Thanks for the informative article. I have a question regarding changing residency status.
I’ll be done with my PhD next month but my student’s residence permit will expire in September. Do I have to report to Goc idairesi right after I graduate or should I wait until my permit expires? Also, do you know if there is provision for extending my stay here in Turkey so that I can search for a job?
I look forward to your answer, thank you
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
When you graduate you can transfer your student residence permit into another type, depending on your purpose of stay. This way you can extend validity of your residence permit and stay in Turkey to search for a job and when you find it, your employer must apply for your work permit.

Hi, I plan to move to Istanbul for approximately 9 month to study Turkish (either at Tömer or at Istanbul University). Can you please tell me where can I get the sponsor letter? And what is the minimum money my parents will have to send me as a support? I have a part time job so i also have minimum 100€ from that (sometimes 200€/month). Will that count too? Or they don’t care about that, and they just want the parents as sponsors. Can my brother be a sponsor too? One more question about the bank statement – what do they check? Since when should my parents start to put the money on my account? From the month i will be in Istanbul or already before that? Thank you very much
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
The sponsor letter should be prepared at the notary office. İf you have sponsor letter from abroad, it should be also translated and notarized in Turkey. The minimum monthly income required for residence permit application is 500 USD and you need to prove your source of income for past 6 months before the requested residence permit duration. Your brother can be a sponsor as well. Of course, your salary also counts as an income if only you can present any documents to certify it.
Best Regards

Thank you very much for your reply. You said I need to prove my source of income for past 6 months before the requested residence permit duration. But right now I am living with my parents at home, so they don’t send me money. They will sponsor me from the date when I stay abroad. This way my monthly income is 100/200€ per month on my bank account since I am still a student, so I have a part time job only. And my parents don’t put money on it because I don’t need it at home. What can I do? It will not be enough if i get a sponsor letter and maybe show them my parents/brothers bank statement so they will see that they have enough money? Thank you
Good morning,
I’m currently an Erasmus student under a student residence permit. My residence permit expire on 28 june. But I need to stay in Turkey for doing my passport through my consulate as well as to reguate all before to leave. So, my ticket plane to go back home is dated for 29 july. I applied for a touristic residence permit. Is it the right way to do or should I have ask for the extension process instead of first application?
Hello,
Thank you for your comment.
İf you are not going to continue education in Turkey, you should transfer your residence permit into touristic one. You can not extend student RP for period of time that is not covered by your learning agreement.

Hello. I am an Erasmus student in Turkey from Greece. I came to Istanbul on 10th of February and my Erasmus program will be finished on 30th of June. I asked for a student resident permit until this date, but they have given me a residence permit until 28th of April which is about 2 months earlier. I have done the entrance with my foreigner ID card and my 90 days finish after 10 days. My residence permit period finisbed 3 days ago.Any recommendations??
Hello,
You should contact immigration office if you were not informed about the reason of granting residence permit for shorter period of time than stated in your learning agreement. As your residence permit is expired, you will not be able to extend it so you will need to apply for new residence permit.
Best Regards
