Another Surgery with Vision Pro: Is a New Era Beginning?

The Vision Pro headset, which has already assisted in two other surgeries, made another first in Florida.

Vision Pro was used to provide “touch-free access to surgical setup, inventory and procedural information from the sterile area of the operating room” during shoulder replacement, particularly reverse shoulder replacement.

Last month, Apple shared details of how the Vision Pro app could be used in robot-assisted knee and hip surgery.

Vision Pro’s Success in Surgeries Increases

The myMako app for Apple Vision Pro allows surgeons to access complex surgical plan details and dynamic fingertip access.

The glasses are said to “eliminate human error” by ensuring the correct steps and tools are used throughout the operation. The landmark application was performed by G. Russell Huffman, MPH, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute at AdventHealth Surgery Center in Florida.

Vision Pro provided technicians with untouched access to surgical set-up, inventory information and procedure manuals, including the sterile field of the OR, giving them access to data that was previously unavailable.

The app has significantly increased the efficiency of surgical procedures and improved patient outcomes by accurately providing equipment and workflow.

Vision Pro was used in much the same way as the British spine surgery procedure – not a glamorous role, but a very important one that could have a significant impact on both the duration and outcome of the operation.

The use of Vision Pro headphones in operating rooms is expected to become routine in the future.
