Lake Cildir, located between Kars and Ardahan, froze with the cold air that was effective as of 27 December. Sleigh rides have also started on the lake, whose surface is covered with ice.
Compared to previous years, snowfall was almost non-existent in Lake Cildir, which experienced temperatures above seasonal norms in November and December. A week ago, partial freezing started in the lake as the air temperatures dropped below zero. In the last days of December, a large part of the lake froze due to the cold weather in Arpacay and Cildir districts of Ardahan.
In Arpacay district, which is part of the lake, the lowest temperatures in the last five days were between 7 and 11 degrees below zero, while the weather in Cildir district became even colder. After the cold weather, the surface of Lake Cildir was completely covered with ice. The ice thickness in the lake approached 25 centimeters.
