The 20-year-old Belgian, known as AJ, ate pasta for dinner that he had cooked and left out 5 days ago. AJ, who went out to do sports with his friends, started having head and stomach pains half an hour after returning home. After a while, vomiting and diarrhea complaints increased and the young man went to bed to sleep instead of going to the doctor.

AJ, who did not go to school the next day, was found dead in his bed by his family. An autopsy revealed that the young student died about 10 minutes after eating the meal. The autopsy revealed that AJ died of liver necrosis and acute pancreatitis.
The shocking case was published in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. Dr. Bernard, who described himself as a US-based licensed medical provider, outlined the case in the video. Dr. Bernard said: “A lot of people eat a day or two of leftover pasta or some other form of noodles, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Be careful with food left out for more than a few hours. If the food smells funny, it is always better to be safe than sorry.”

Food should be stored properly. Dr. Bernard said the severity of the illness experienced by AJ, who died in October 2008, was “not typical” but it is still important to practice proper food storage techniques to prevent any incidents. Experts recommend refrigerating perishable food items within two hours of preparation. Fresh poultry, fish and minced meat should be consumed immediately after cooking or frozen. Beef, veal and lamb should be consumed within three to five days.
