History of the Mansion
Kostaki Mansion was built as a residence in the early 1900s by Banker Kostaki Teophylaktos. It is known that many materials used in the building, whose architects were determined to be Italian, were brought from Italy. When Kostaki Teophylaktos went bankrupt in 1917, the mansion was bought by the Nemlioğlu Family, and all its assets were confiscated with this building. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, during his first visit to Trabzon on 15-17 September 1924, was hosted in this mansion with his wife Latife Hanım and the accompanying delegation.
Except for the basement floor of the historical mansion, which was used as an inspection building between 1931 and 1937, all the ground walls were completely decorated with pencil work. The mansion, which was restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism between 1988-2001, was opened to visitors on April 22, 2001 as the Trabzon Museum.
