Istanbul Tulip Festival
The annual Tulip Festival in Istanbul began in 2006 when the municipal government began planting millions of brightly colored and fragrant tulips all over the city.
Every spring, Istanbul’s parks, squares, streets and even crossroads begin to bloom to the delight of both Istanbulites and visitors.
Istanbul hosts the annual Tulip Festival in April every year. Turkish tulips, one of the rarest and most important symbols of our culture, bloom in late March or early April, depending on the weather. As the flowers bloom for several weeks, they captivate those who see them with their sense of sight and smell for about a month. Istanbul is the most beautiful city to visit in spring.
Organized with a different theme every year, the Istanbul tulip festival covers all parts of the city. Various events will take place in Emirgan Grove, Göztepe 60th Year Park and many parks, gardens and venues at the 16th Istanbul Tulip Festival!
The month-long Istanbul tulip festival is usually held in the spring, with the onset of April. While many other events are going on in the living city of Istanbul, this is considered one of the best events as the atmosphere of the city has completely changed with the chirping flowers growing everywhere.
Tulips planted and blooming in different varieties and scents remind you that the winter days of the city are over and you can look forward to spring.
The “Istanbul Tulip Festival” organized by IMM is expected to be held between April 1-30, depending on weather conditions. Emirgan Grove and Göztepe 60th Year Park will be the scene of colorful events like every year.
When is the 16th Tulip Festival in Istanbul?
Istanbul Tulip Festival will be held in April 2023 in spring. The official tulip festival dates are April 1-30, but depending on the weather you can sometimes see the tulips bloom from late March to the first few weeks of May.
However, tulips are not the only ones in the International Istanbul Tulip Festival. You can also see daffodils, purple grape hyacinths and pansies planted among tulips to create vibrant, gorgeous flower displays.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is turning the city into a flower garden with the arrival of spring. Istanbul in April is incredibly beautiful – blooming tulips and blooming tree buds turn the city into a huge garden.
Where is the Tulip Festival in Istanbul?
The Tulip Festival, which has been held regularly since 2006, is exhibited at many different points in the city. We will summarize the main venues and most notable exhibits of this flower festival in our list below.
What are the best parks for Tulip Festival 2023? Here are 8 beautiful places in Istanbul where you can experience the Tulip Era…
- Emirgan Grove (Emirgan Park)
The main venue of the Tulip Festival Istanbul is Emirgan Park. This large park is the main center of the Istanbul Tulip Festival and overlooks the Bosphorus on the European side. Therefore, it also has fascinating views. The pavilions in the park are home to traditional handicrafts such as marbling, calligraphy, glassblowing and painting. Musical performances take place on pop-up stages outdoors.
More than 120 types of tulips were planted in Emirgan Grove, from the shape of the Turkish flag to the river flowing under the bridge. The total number of tulips grown in Emirgan every year is around 3.5
- Sultanahmet Square
This is the square next to the Blue Mosque, which was historically Constantinople’s Hippodrome. In previous years, the giant tulip carpet design, which attracted great attention from domestic and foreign tourists, was exhibited. An area of 1,728 square meters and 563 thousand live tulips were used for the world record-breaking, largest and extremely popular ‘tulip carpet’.
- Gulhane Park
Like Emirgan, Gülhane Park is a beautiful place to visit all year round, with its magnificent gardens, relaxing promenades, open-air cafes and stunning Bosphorus views.
This is perhaps the most relaxing park of the historical peninsula. Wander around the old lower walls of Topkapi Palace in Sultanahmet. Fortunately, there are plenty of benches and resting places where you can quietly enjoy the flower show under mature and old trees.
The tulip garden at Gulhane Park has grown over the years (about 2.5 million tulips each year in total) and is truly magnificent – tulips planted next to daffodils and pansies in a dizzying array of patterns.
- Khedive Mansion and Grove
The tulip, one of the important symbols of our culture, blooms again in the lands it belongs to. Another venue that hosts the tulip festival is the Hıdiv Pavilion and Grove, located on the Asian side of Istanbul, between Çubuklu and Kanlıca districts, on the Bosphorus side.
Last year, 294 thousand 200 tulips of 8 different species were planted in the Hıdiv Çubuklu Grove and 92 thousand 720 tulips from 8 different species were planted in the Beykoz Grove last year by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).
Hidiv Grove welcomes its visitors with its nature consisting of hundreds of plant and tree species, beautiful gardens, green areas, filtered pools, hiking and sightseeing tracks. It also has one of the largest rose gardens in Istanbul.
The Khedive Mansion and Grove is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and admission is free.
- Göztepe 60th Year Park
Göztepe 60. Yıl Park, located in Kadıköy on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, between Bağdat Street and the coastal road, is among the parks that can be easily accessed from both land and sea and where you can enter free of charge.
With its unique beauty, Göztepe 60th Yıl Park is one of the most popular parks on the Anatolian side with its walking paths around the lake, children’s playgrounds and live flower fields between closed fences.
Istanbul 15th Tulip Festival for 2022 hosted many events in Göztepe 60th Year Park between 24-28 April and 1 million 657 thousand 500 tulips of 100 different species were planted by IMM for the Tulip Festival.
