Japanese auto giantToyota has confirmed that sensitive data on millions of vehicles has been stored in the open on the Internet for a decade and can be accessed by anyone who knows where to look.

A security announcement posted on the company’s newsroom website stated that information on the location of 2.15 millionToyota owners was found in an unprotected cloud database between November 6, 2013 and April 17, 2023.

Toyota also said that video recordings taken from the outside of the vehicles were also likely to have been exposed in the incident. These records include records recorded over seven years (November 2016 – April 2023).
