WHEN SHOULD MUHARRAM FASTING BE KEPT?

The month of Muharam started on Wednesday 19 July 2023.

The response of the Presidency of Religious Affairs is as follows;

It is mustahab to fast during the month of Muharrem. It is mustahabb to fast at the beginning, end or in the middle of the month, i.e. on the 13th, 14th, 15th or on the 9th, 10th or 10th and 11th days.

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “The most virtuous fast, apart from the fast of Ramadan, is the fast of Muharrem, the month of Allah. The most virtuous prayer, other than the obligatory ones, is the night prayer.” (Muslim, Sıyâm, 202-203; Abu Dâwûd, Savm 55; Tirmidhî, Salât, 212; Nesâî, Qiyâm al-leyl, 6)

WHEN IS ASHURA DAY?

According to the Islamic belief, “Ashura Day”, which is the tenth day of the month of Muharam, where important events took place in the lives of prophets from the Prophet Adam, and where the symbol of abundance, sharing, unity and solidarity, Ashura is made, will be observed.

Ashura Day, which is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Muharrem, coincided with 28 July 2023.
