Eskişehir Osmangazi University Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Production Application and Research Center (ESTEM) continues its activities as the only stem cell center in Turkey in terms of bringing together different disciplines, R&D program and academic education.
Eskişehir Osmangazi University Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Production Application and Research Center (ESTEM) has been working in the field of stem cells, which has been a breakthrough in science since its establishment in 2014. There are academicians and researchers from different disciplines at the center. . , especially in the fields of medicine, engineering, pharmacy and clinical medicine. In the center, where nearly 40 foreign master’s and doctoral students, as well as local researchers, actively work, studies are carried out on cancerous tissues and healing of non-healing wounds with cellular therapy. ESTEM, the second Stem Cell Department of Turkey, operates as the only stem cell center in the country with its R&D and interdisciplinary working method.
“There were many examples in the world, but not in our country”
Explaining the working method and features of the center, ESTEM Director Assoc. Ayla Eker Sarıboyacı said, “ESTEM is one of 4-5 similar centers in our country. With the project support we have received in recent years, we have become very different and unique in its field. ESTEM can produce all other cells. More than stem cells, to offer them to those who work on it or as a center, It has the ability to conduct D studies, not only being an R&D center, but also establishing the second Stem Cell Department of Turkey. Again, our team established the first department. While there are many examples in the world, there are none in our country. Therefore, its feature of being a part of education is both a stem cell center and a We are a research institution, we are a medical center and we also provide education as a stem cell department. We have nearly 40 graduate and doctorate students here. We also have sultanate students from abroad. Thus, it also contributes to the training of scientists.
“We are a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team”
Noting that they carry out a wide range of studies by bringing together different disciplines, ESTEM Mems and Tissue Engineering Unit Supervisor Assoc. Hüseyin Avcı said, “As the engineering and basic sciences team, we are a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team integrated into ESTEM. We have active professors and students from basic medicine to physicians, from engineering to pharmacy, from science faculty. stem cell and cellular therapy, chip organs, biosensors, non-healing wounds in our team. Our fields of study continue, such as approaches involving cells and cell components, toxin analysis, studies on cancerous tissues, etc.
“Doing different studies with different disciplines helped me a lot”
Molecular Biology Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. Burcugül Altuğ Tasa stated that her experience at ESTEM made a significant contribution to her academic life and said, “Doing different studies with different disciplines in this center has given me a lot. We’re doing a lot of different work.”
