Turkey’s Largest Park; Merkez Park
Merkez Park is a 33-hectare city park established on both sides of the Seyhan River. Located between Sabanci Merkez Mosque in the south and Galleria shopping center in the north, the park was opened in 2004. It is Turkey’s largest park.
History of the Park
In the past, there were citrus orchards, municipal bus station and empty plots against the overflow of the river in the area where the park is located. Over time, the bus station was moved from here. Galleria shopping center and Mimar Sinan Amphitheater were built to the south and north of Demirkopru. In 1998, 100 houses in the region were demolished and the Sinanpasa suspension bridge connecting the two sides was built. The park opened in 2004.
Landscape of the Merkez Park
There are more than 400,000 plants in Merkez Park. It is decorated with 40 kinds of trees and 67 kinds of plants. There are 12 pools, 2.2 hectares of children’s playground, ice skating rink, amphitheater and circular resting terraces in the park. There is also a 3 km long jogging and cycling track between the park and the street.
