They Did Ski Training On Asphalt When It Was Not Snowing

In Muş, the ski team athletes did their training on the asphalt with wheeled skis because there was not enough snow.

Turkey is experiencing the driest winter season of recent years…

The seasons began to differ with the rain and snowfall, which was postponed due to the long-lasting effects of hot weather.

As a result of the expected snowfall in the city of Mus, Turkey, the athletes resorted to a different method to do their training.

Ski Training on Asphalt

Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports ski team athletes train on asphalt with wheeled skis because there is not enough snow.

Athletes aim to return from the championship with honors.

Ski trainer Süleyman Yildirim, who works at the Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, told reporters that the lack of precipitation this year had a negative impact on their work.

Stating that they had to do the training on asphalt with roller skis, Yildirim said:
“Despite the cold weather, we continue our training. We were doing our training on snow at this time last year. There was not enough snow this year. We are currently trying to do our training with wheel skis on asphalt. We are preparing for the regional qualifiers to be held in Hakkari in February. If we pass the qualifiers, the first stage will be held in Erzurum. Better results are obtained in the trainings made in the snow.
At this time last year, we were preparing for the races on the snow.”
Bayram Güner, one of the skiers, stated that they were preparing for the regional qualifiers with the work they carried out on the asphalt.
