The most watched movies in Turkey this year announced
The most watched movies in the first 8 months of the year were announced. While three out of 10 movies were local productions, the animated movie Rafadan Tayfa Galaktik Tayfa was the most watched movie of the year with 2 million 852 thousand 910 viewers.
The summer season dominated by blockbusters like Barbie and Oppenheimer is over. Although the year is not yet complete, the most watched movies of this year have been announced.
Three of the 10 most watched movies in the first 8 months of the year were local productions. According to the information compiled from Box Office Turkey, the total number of viewers reached 21 million 399 thousand 119 in the first 8 months when 345 films were released.
Directed and scripted by İsmail Fidan and written by Ozan Çivit, “Rafadan Tayfa Galactic Tayfa” was the most watched movie in the first 8 months of the year with 2 million 852 thousand 910 viewers. The movie, which is about the adventures of TRT Çocuk’s beloved heroes, tells the story of Hayri, Kamil, Sevim, Hale, Akın and Mert’s efforts to bring their alien friends stranded on Earth to the spaceship.
OPPENHEIMER
Focusing on the life of American physicist Julius Robert Oppenheimer, “Oppenheimer” became the second most watched movie with 1 million 593 thousand 151 viewers.
Starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon, the movie was Christopher Nolan’s longest production to date with its 181-minute duration. The movie tells the story of Oppenheimer, who develops nuclear weapons, and the decision he makes when he learns that the weapon will be used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and then becomes a target in the US.

FAST AND FURIOUS 10
Attracting action and adventure lovers to movie theaters, “Fast and Furious 10” was watched by 1 million 577 thousand 429 people and ranked third among the most watched movies. The US-made movie starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jason Momoa was directed by Louis Leterrier.
BARBIE
Starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir, “Barbie” became the fourth most watched movie of the year. The film, which tells the adventure and fun-filled story of the iconic doll Barbie, who experiences existential crises in Barbie land and suddenly finds herself in the real world, attracted one million 363 thousand 185 people to movie theaters.

AVATAR 5: THE PATH OF WATER
The sequel to the blockbuster Avatar, released 13 years later, “Avatar: The Path of Water” ranked 5th among the most watched productions. Directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana, the film was released on December 16, 2022. While 1 million 362 thousand 96 people watched the US-made movie in 2023, the total number of viewers was 2 million 677 thousand 106.
The movie is about Jake Sully, who joins the Na’vi people on the planet Pandora and starts a family with Neytiri, and his struggle with the Na’vi people when a familiar enemy threatens their planet again.
HOLY CARAVAN 4
Starring Şafak Sezer, Ersin Korkut, Müjde Uzman, Nilgün Belgün and Erhan Yazıcıoğlu, “Kutsal Damacana 4” ranked sixth among the most watched movies. The movie, directed by Kamil Çetin, was watched by 1 million 147 thousand 111 people.
JOHN WICK 4
The last movie of the “John Wick” series, “John Wick 4” ranked 7th among the most watched movies by moviegoers. The number of people who watched the production starring Hollywood star Keanu Reeves reached 1 million 50 thousand 239. The thriller and action movie tells the story of John Wick, who fights against dozens of hired killers with a bounty on his head, and his fight against the High Council to win his freedom.
CAT IN BOOTS LAST WISH
Attracting animation lovers to movie theaters, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” was watched by 816 thousand 621 people and ranked 8th in the list. Directed by Januel Mercado and Joel Crawford, the movie tells the story of Puss in Boots, who ventures into the Black Forest to find the infamous Wishing Star, and the events that unfold after he is forced to ask for help from his old partner and enemy, Soft Paw Kitty.
ILLEGAL LIVES
Directed by Cenk Çelik and telling the story of a man trying to run an illegal casino, “Yasak Hayatlar” was the 9th most watched production. The movie starring youtuber and content producer Mahsun Karaca, known as “Interview Man” on social media, was watched by 677 thousand 306 people.
SPIDERMAN: CROSSING INTO THE SPIDER UNIVERSE
Aiming to attract animation lovers to movie theaters, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was watched by 564,502 people and ranked 10th among the most watched productions.
Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, the movie tells the story of Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and a new Spider-Man team from multiple universes as they fight against a powerful villain they have never encountered before.
