The Color of the Water Changed in Balikligol After the Earthquake
The color of the water of the historical Balıklıgöl in Şanlıurfa, known as the “largest natural aquarium” in the world, which was affected by the earthquakes in Kahramanmaras, has changed. The fish are in good condition.
The clear color of Balıklıgöl and its water basin, located in the historical place rumored to be the place where Prophet Abraham was born and thrown into the fire, changed due to earthquakes.
The historical place, which is one of the first stops of visitors coming to Sanliurfa from different cities of Turkey, stands out as having an important place in faith tourism.
Balıklıgöl Environmental Protection Foundation Director Siracettin İlhan said that they were faced with a historical disaster.
İlhan stated that they are continuing the controls and inspections in Balikligol, “The water is muddy due to the fact that the underground waters are very active due to earthquakes. Our fish are more resistant to this kind of situation because they are carp species. Our fish do not have any health problems. Our controls and inspections continue. It is a natural disaster. I hope we will see the days when it returns to its former state. It is the first time we see such a color. There were small-scale blurs before, but this was a very different situation.” he said.
