Short History of Sakarya

The history of Sakarya begins with the Hittites. Later, Phrygians, Lydians, Persians, Macedonians and the Bithynia Kingdom dominated the region. The Roman Empire ended the Bithynian Kingdom in the 1st century BC and added the region to its territory. With the division of Rome into two in 365, the territory of the city remained under the rule of the Byzantine Empire.
