Opera Festival in Aphrodisias

The Izmir State Opera and Ballet Orchestra took the stage for the first time at the concert held in the ancient city of Aphrodisias, which has a history of more than 2,000 years in Aydin’s Karacasu district. In the concert, which was the scene of unforgettable moments, Turkish works were performed in addition to classical western music works, accompanied by the conductor Vladimir Lungu.

Izmir State Opera and Ballet Orchestra Conductor Vladimir Lungu had an unforgettable night accompanied by soprano Nazlı Alptekin, Filiz Gunes, Derya Kircali Gurluk, tenor Burak Dabakoglu, baritone Murat Duyan, Bas Hasan Alptekin and Teyfik Rhodes. The event, which was held on the stage set in front of Tetrapylon, the symbol of Aphrodisias, had a great participation. In the concert, where many Karacasulu and protocol members showed great interest, the unique performances of the opera singers in the historical city were also echoed. Zeybek music also added color to the night in the concert, in which popular works of Turkish music were performed as well as classical western music works. At the end of the night, all the soloists came to the stage and sang the song ‘My Country’ and the audience accompanied them. Those in the concert area wanted the continuation of these concerts, which they followed with great pleasure.

Speaking after the concert, soloist Teyfik Rhodes said, “We enjoyed being with you tonight. We witnessed a very nice concert with our orchestra in this beautiful environment in this ancient environment and our audience left this concert very happy. We will perform a quartet tomorrow. These concerts become traditional here. I think the audience of Aydın and Karacasu will have a good time. First of all, we included Turkish works. We also sang songs by important names. Classical western music works in the world of classical opera. For example, there were works from Carmen opera and Sendul operetta. Our aim here is both Turkish and Turkish. and trying to introduce classical works to our listeners.”
