Earthquake Cracks Occured at Sultansuyu Dam in Malatya; Dam is Being Evacuated!

The dam water is discharged in a controlled manner after cracks occur in the body axis of the Sultansuyu Dam in Malatya due to the earthquake.

The Sultansuyu Dam in Malatya, which has cracks in the hull axis due to the earthquake in Kahramanmaras, is being evacuated.

In a statement made by the Malatya Governor’s Office, it was said, “The Sultansuyu Dam will be emptied gradually as a precaution. It was announced that the Sultansuyu Dam was damaged, especially in the body axis section, and there were cracks in places, as well as openings in different layers in the section.”

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Engineering Faculty Water Resources Department Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Ceyhun Ozcelik stated that the water level of the dam dropped to one and a half meters.

Ozcelik said, “Just in case, the authorities are evacuating the reservoirs in a controlled manner. I think that the dam will be repaired or demolished as a result of the analyzes and examinations to be made in the future.” made its assessment.
