Dropped and Broke a $42,000 of Artwork!
A woman visiting the art fair touched the ‘Balloon dog’ sculpture worth $42,000 with her finger and dropped the famous artwork and broke it.
The artwork was one of Jeff Koons’ famous ‘balloon dogs’ and was on display at the VIP-exclusive opening night of Art Wynwood, the annual contemporary art fair in Miami, Florida, on Thursday 16 February.
Local artist Stephen Gamson told the Miami Herald that an elderly woman touched the statue on display at Bel-Air Fine Art’s booth and the statue fell from where it stood and shattered loudly.
Guests flocked to the quickly shattered statue, and many wondered if the accident was a deliberate act as part of some kind of performance art. However, it soon became clear that this would not be a performance.
Although it is undoubtedly a heart-rending accident for the woman who dropped the statue, she will not be punished financially, because it is stated that the artwork is covered by insurance and therefore there will be no need for punishment.
