The European Union has fined the messaging app WhatsApp 5.5 million euros for breaching data privacy.

The European Union (EU) Data Protection Commission has decided to fine the messaging app WhatsApp for a data breach.

The Data Protection Commission, based in Ireland, where WhatsApp is headquartered in Europe, announced that the company is forcing users to allow their personal data to be used.

The commission stated that WhatsApp wants this data to be used to provide “service improvements and security”.
