BIONTECH VACCINE DECISION FOR GERMANS FROM CHINA
On the other hand, it was reported that China approved the application of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by BioNTech company, founded by Turkish scientist Ugur Sahin, to German citizens living in the country.
German President Olaf Scholz stated that the two countries agreed to cooperate more closely in the fight against coronavirus at the joint press conference held after meeting with his Chinese counterpart Li Kiqiang during his visit to Beijing.
“This also includes the approval of the BioNTech vaccine for foreigners living in China,” Scholz used the phrase.
While it is unclear whether the German Chancellor refers to foreigners other than German citizens by the word “foreigners”, Caixin, China’s economy and financial news service, reported that the agreement is limited to German citizens.
Scholz stated that he wished the limited use approval agreement would be the first step towards widespread use of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Until now, the use of Covid-19 vaccines other than the domestic vaccines produced by Chinese companies Sinopharm, Sinovac and CanSino Biotech has not been approved in mainland China. The BioNTech vaccine is administered in the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions.
The BioNTech vaccine, whose production rights in China belong to the Chinese company Fosun Pharma, became one of the most effective vaccines in providing immunity against Covid-19 with its genetically designed formula.
The BioNTech vaccine contains messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) in its formula, unlike the inactivated vaccines used in China, which contain the inactivated version of the virus. The vaccine works by increasing blood sugar enzymes that neutralize Covid-19 in the human body, antibodies that regulate immunity, and glycoproteins that create an immune response at the cellular level.
