A New Record in Electricity Generation from Wind in Turkey

According to TEİAŞ data, on January 17, 2023, the highest daily electricity production of all time was obtained from wind energy.
The production record of all time was broken on January 17, 2023, with the capacity increase in wind power plants in Turkey and the wind intensity being in ideal conditions yesterday. According to the data of Turkey Electricity Transmission AŞ (TEİAŞ), electricity produced from wind energy reached an all-time high on January 17 with 208,94 megawatt-hours.

The latest record in electricity generation from wind was 207,906 megawatt-hours on December 12, 2022. The first record of the new year in renewable energy came from the wind.

Yesterday, 909 thousand 446 megawatt-hours of electricity was produced from all sources in Turkey. Imported coal power plants made up 26 percent of this, wind power plants 22.9 percent and natural gas power plants 15 percent.

Daily consumption was recorded as 931 thousand 235 megawatt hours. While 27 thousand 330 megawatt-hours of electricity was imported, 5 thousand 817 megawatt-hours of electricity was exported.

How Much is Turkey’s Installed Power in Renewable Energy?

According to EMRA’s October 2022 data, Turkey’s installed power in wind energy was determined as 11,306 megawatts, installed power in solar energy was determined as 9,120 megawatts and hydroelectric power was determined as 31,568 megawatts. When geothermal and biomass resources are included, the total installed power of licensed and unlicensed power plants in renewable energy reaches 55,509 megawatts.
