As the Governor's Office of Istanbul announced that the 18th Feminist Night March will not be allowed on the Istiklal Avenue in Beyoglu, women couldn’t reach the avenue via the side streets which was closed by the police around 12pm today. Groups coming from different directions gathered on Siraselviler Street and wanted to march towards Istiklal but police did not allow them to proceed any further and intervened against the group frontmost using tear gas. While women were prevented by the police in Siraselviler near Taksim Square, the other end of the crowd reached as far as Cihangir. A group of women who gathered in Cihangir started marching to Karakoy.
The police have taken some women under custody who refused to disperse near Taksim Square.
