25 Earthquake Provocateurs Arrested for Sharing on Social Media
According to the statement made by the General Directorate of Security, 808 account managers were determined to have provocative posts regarding Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes on social media platforms. Judicial proceedings were initiated against 452 of them. 25 of the 131 suspects who were taken into custody in line with the instructions received from the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office were arrested.
In a written statement made by the EGM, it was stated that 76 websites for phishing, which were created to abuse the goodwill of citizens who wanted to help earthquake victims, were closed, and said, “We need to take the necessary precautions regarding 15 social media platform accounts that demand money from citizens by imitating and using the names of official institutions. In addition, 6 crypto asset wallet addresses where money is requested to be deposited using the theme of ‘earthquake aid’ were determined and the wallets were frozen.”
