Turkey’s Domestic And National E5000 Type Electric Locomotive Is Being Put On The Rails
The E5000 Type Electric Locomotive, Developed With Domestic And National Facilities At Türasaş Eskişehir Factory, Will Be Put On The Rails At The Mass Opening Ceremony To Be Held With The Participation Of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The electric locomotive, which will largely eliminate the technological dependence on foreign countries in rail systems, will be the most powerful vehicle with a locally designed traction system in Turkey to date.
Developed in accordance with the needs of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), the 5-megawatt (MW) E5000 stands out with its European Union (EU) Technical Specification for Interoperability on Railways (TSI) certification.
The E5000, which can carry freight and passengers, is a new generation electric mainline locomotive with a speed of 140 kilometers per hour.
The E5000 electric main line locomotive has many firsts both for its class and for Turkey’s rail systems adventure.
This electric locomotive has the first locally designed car body for main line locomotives, the first spark plug, the first train control and management system, the most powerful electric motor, the most powerful traction converter, the most powerful traction transformer and the most powerful auxiliary power unit.
All main components developed for the E5000 are important as they have critical technology that can be exported as separate products. These products can also be used in the existing locomotives of TCDD Ulaşım AŞ, both as spare parts and for their modernization.
At Least 4 Billion Euros Will Stay In The Country
With the locomotive in question, Turkey’s need for 500 locomotives in the next 10 years will be met, thus avoiding the purchase cost of at least 2 billion euros. In addition, with the locomotive, which was designed by Turkish engineers, the maintenance and repair times of critical systems will become much shorter.
Maintenance and repair costs can also be met at much lower costs with the human resources and ecosystem created. In this way, at least 2 billion euros will remain in the country.
The first movement of the national electric locomotive, whose design, analysis and subsystem production have been completed, will be realized with the command that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will give in a live connection at the mass opening ceremony in Eskişehir today evening.
Minister Dönmez Examined The E5000 Type Electric Locomotive Developed With Domestic And National Facilities
Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, regarding the E5000 type electric locomotive developed with domestic and national facilities in the Eskişehir factory of Turkey Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TÜRASAŞ), said, “We have now been able to make the products we have been buying from abroad for years with our own domestic national facilities. This is extremely pleasing.”
Minister Dönmez came to TÜRASAŞ Eskişehir factory to inspect the electric locomotive that will be put on the rails at the mass opening ceremony that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend in Eskişehir today.
Dönmez, who examined the locomotive with Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, told reporters that they would experience the excitement of many firsts today.
Stating that hundreds of facilities will be inaugurated in Eskişehir with the participation of President Erdoğan, Dönmez said:
“All of them are valuable, but a few in particular are extremely important for Turkey. On the mining side, we made a rare earth element discovery in Beylikova last year. It was the second largest rare earth element reserve in the world. The work to establish a pilot plant there has been completed. God willing, we will inaugurate it. Then we will inaugurate the E5000 electric locomotive that we are standing in front of right now. Indeed, with an intense effort, an outstanding success has been achieved. We would like to thank our Minister of Industry and Technology, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and their valuable teams, TÜBİTAK, TCDD Tasimacilik and TURASAŞ officials. We have now been able to make the products we have been buying from abroad for years with our own domestic national facilities. This is extremely pleasing.”
Dönmez added that they have recently made intensive efforts to break foreign dependence in technology.
Ministers Dönmez and Varank were accompanied by Eskişehir Governor Erol Ayyıldız, TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, TÜRASAŞ General Manager Mustafa Metin Yazar, AK Party MKYK Member Burhan Sakallı and AK Party Provincial Chairman Süleyman Reyhan.
