Turkey Started The Championship With 7 Medals

On the first day of the European Taekwondo and Para Taekwondo Championship held in Manchester, England, Turkish athletes advanced to the finals in all 6 weight categories and won 7 medals, 5 of which were gold.

On the first day of the championship, while competitions were held in 4 weight categories in taekwondo and 2 in para taekwondo, 8 of our athletes competed for medals. In taekwondo, women’s 49 kilos Merve Dincel, 53 kilos Zeliha Ağrıs and men’s 63 kilos Hakan Reçber became the European champions. Görkem Polat won the silver medal in the men’s 54 kilograms and Deniz Dağdelen won the bronze medal in the same kilograms. In para taekwondo, Nurcihan Ekinci in the women’s K44 47 kilos and Alican Özcan in the men’s K44 58 kilos won the gold medal.

In the women’s 49 kg category, Merve Dincel beat Bulgaria’s Nikolet Kostova 13-3 in the second round, and England’s Maddison Moore 37-17 in the quarter-finals, after passing the first round without a match, and advanced to the semi-finals. Merve Dincel, who beat Spain’s Adriana Cerezo Iglesias with a gold shot in the semi-finals, won the gold medal by beating Israel’s Abishag Semberg 23-19 in the final.

Zeliha Ağrıs, supported by Ülker Metro, which represents our country in 53 kilos, passed the first round without a match, and in the 2nd round, she beat Lea Hoglinger from Austria in the 15-8 quarter-finals, and Luca Patakfalvy from Hungary with a golden shot, and Ela Aydın, who fought for Germany. He made his name to the final by beating . Zeliha Ağrıs won the gold medal by beating Spain’s Alma Maria Perez Parrado 8-6 in the final.

 

HAKAN REÇBER IS THE EUROPEAN CHAMPION FOR THE SECOND CONTINUOUS

 

In men’s 63 kg, Hakan Reçber beat Moldova’s Serghei Uscov 25-5 in the 2nd round, Novak Stanic from Serbia 22-10 in the quarter-finals, Joan Cala Jorquera from Spain in the semi-finals after passing the first round without a match. He became the European champion for the second time in a row by beating Souleyman Alaphilippe from France 20-14 in the final, 13-11.

Representing our country in para taekwondo K44 58 kg, Alican Özcan won the gold medal by defeating Sabir Zeynalov from Azerbaijan 22-19 in the semi-finals and Bopha Kong from France 34-15 in the final.
Para taekwondo women’s K44 47kg Nurcihan Ekinci won the gold medal by defeating Royala Fataliyeva from Azerbaijan 10-1 in the quarter-finals, Ana Japaridze 16-2 in the semi-finals and Viktoriia Marchuk from Ukraine 13-12 in the final.

In the men’s 54 kg category, Görkem Polat won the silver medal by losing to Omar Gergely Salim from Hungary in the final, while Deniz Dağdelen, who was defeated by the same athlete in the semi-finals, won the bronze medal.

On the second day of the championship, competitions will be held in 4 weight categories in taekwondo and 3 in para taekwondo, and 8 athletes will fight for medals.
