In the US, the January 6 Investigative Committee of the House of Representatives summoned former US President Donald Trump to testify.
The Special Committee of the House of Representatives, which was established to investigate the congressional raid on January 6, 2021 in the country, held its session today, which was previously postponed due to Hurricane Ian.
In the voting at the session, all 9 Committee members voted “yes” to the proposal to summon Trump to testify.
Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson said in a statement after the vote, “Trump was the person at the center of the story that happened on January 6th. That’s why we want to hear from him.” used the phrase.
Thompson said the Committee should hear what happened on January 6 as a whole.
JANUARY 6 CONGRESS Raid
In the USA, extreme right-wing groups and former US President Donald Trump supporters stormed the Congress building where the session was held on January 6, 2021 to approve the results of the November 3, 2020 election.
In the raid, 5 people, including 1 police officer, lost their lives. Former President Trump, who was on trial for impeachment for incitement to riot due to the raid, was acquitted in a vote in the Senate in February 2021.
Democrats in the House of Representatives formed a committee and began investigating the incident, despite the objections of the Republicans.
The committee has called many people close to Trump to testify, and Trump’s former adviser Steve Bannon and his former private secretary, Mark Meadows, who did not comply with these calls, were accused of “insulting the Congress”.
