TikTok Banned in Another Country: What is the Reason for the Access Ban?
TikTok, which has been on the agenda with embargoes for a long time, was expected to be blocked in the USA, while Kyrgyzstan acted earlier. Here are the details.
Although it was criticized a lot when it first came out, TikTok, which is now Instagram’s fiercest competitor, is subject to embargoes because it is a Chinese social media. While the use of TikTok is expected to be banned in the US, Kyrgyzstan has blocked access to TikTok as of today.
Access to TikTok Blocked in Kyrgyzstan
It is stated that access to TikTok was blocked because it does not comply with the law, which includes measures to prevent TikTok from harming children’s health, physical, intellectual, mental, spiritual and moral development.
The authorities first took this decision in August 2023, citing the health of children. At that time, after negotiations with TikTok officials, it was decided not to implement the access blocking decision.
While the access blocking decision was confirmed by the Ministry of Digital Development, internet service providers in the country were told to restrict access to TikTok, while they were requested to provide a written response that they blocked access today, April 18.
