The number of foreign visitors to Istanbul increased by 8.08 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Hosting half of the 4 million 341 thousand 606 foreign visitors who came to Turkey in the first 2 months, Istanbul was mostly preferred by Russians in February.
According to the data of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul hosted 1 million 291 thousand 522 foreign visitors in February with an increase of 19.14 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became the locomotive of Turkish tourism. While the Russian Federation accounted for the highest number of visitors to Istanbul in February with 138 thousand 957 people, Germany was the second with 95 thousand 465 people, Iran was the third with 75 thousand 312 people, and England (United Kingdom) was the fourth with 56 thousand 430 people. The United Kingdom was followed by France with 48 thousand 902 people, Saudi Arabia with 43 thousand 415 people and the United States of America with 41 thousand 472 people.
Istanbul Airport is the first choice
Istanbul Airport was the first choice of foreign visitors to Istanbul in February. Istanbul Airport was preferred by 904 thousand 642 foreign visitors in February. The share of Istanbul Airport in the total number of foreign visitors arriving to Istanbul by air in February was 70.27 percent.
In February, 381 thousand 508 foreign visitors entered Sabiha Gökçen Airport. While Sabiha Gökçen Airport was the second border gate where the highest number of foreign visitors entered, it accounted for 29.64 percent of foreign visitors entering Istanbul by air.
The number of foreign visitors arriving to Istanbul by air in February increased by 19.17 percent compared to the same month of 2023 and reached 1 million 287 thousand 290. The number of foreign visitors arriving to Istanbul by sea last month was 4 thousand 232 in February. The rate of increase compared to the same month of the previous year was 11.19 percent.
