The Most Sold Electric Car Models in the World Announced!

New reports based on global sales of electric cars reveal the best-selling brands and models. Here are the details!

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular every year and global electric car sales reports confirm this.

According to the new global electric car sales report based on July 2023, a total of 1,104,592 new electric cars were sold in July alone. This figure is 41% more than the previous year.

Best Selling Electric Car Models

Electric car sales currently account for about 16% of the total car market.

When we look at 2023 in general, 6.9 million electric cars have been sold worldwide so far, while this figure accounts for approximately 15% of the total volume, and this figure was recorded as 10 million in 2022. It seems that 2022’s record will be broken very soon.

Sold Electric Car Models

Unsurprisingly, the Tesla Model Y took the crown in July with a massive 77,289 units sold. It is closely followed by BYD models, the Tesla Model 3 and a few others.

Things are heating up on the brand front. BYD set a record with 250,000 new vehicles, more than twice as many as second-placed Tesla, which sold over 119,000 units.

Other brands on the top brands list include SAIC-GM-Wuling (thanks to its all-electric micro-cars), Volkswagen, GAC Aion, BMW, Li Auto, Mercedes-Benz, Changan and Kia.

Looking at the overall automotive groups, BYD continues to dominate the plug-in segment with a 21.8% share in the first seven months of 2023, followed by Tesla with 14.5%. They are followed by giants such as Volkswagen Group, Geely-Volvo and SAIC.

In the all-electric segment, Tesla leads with 20.9% of the market, followed by BYD with 15.6%. Volkswagen, SAIC and Geely-Volvo follow.
