The Happiest Countries in the World Have Been Announced! What Rank Is Turkey?
The World Happiness Report has listed the happiest countries in 2023 on its 10th anniversary. While the title of the happiest country did not change, Turkey rose a few places in the list.
Finland was once again the happiest country in the 2023 issue of the annual World Happiness Report, which ranks global happiness in more than 150 countries around the world. While Finland was the happiest country in the world for the sixth time in a row, Turkey was still at the bottom of the list, although it was “less” unhappy compared to the previous year.
The World Happiness Report is based on data from Gallup, an American analytics and consulting firm, and determines happiness based on six key factors: social support, income, health, freedom, generosity, and corruption. This year’s list is similar to previous years, with the same Scandinavian countries at the top of the list. As in 2022, Denmark is once again in second place, while Iceland is in third place.
Why Is Finland So Happy?
What makes Finland so happy? According to experts from Aalto University, Finland is happy for reasons such as its welfare system, generous unemployment benefits, virtually free healthcare and urban planning. Aalto University professor Marketta Kyttä, “A person’s environment plays a huge role in their well-being, which makes health promotion in cities very important. It is closely related to social sustainability and whether you feel connected to your community.” says.
How Happy Is Turkey?
In 2022, Turkey was ranked 112th out of 146 countries in the list of happiest countries. In 2023, Turkey is the 106th happiest country among 137 countries. In the study, it is seen that Turkey is weak in almost all parameters and its unhappiness stems from these.
On the other hand, war-ridden Ukraine fell from 69th to 92nd happiest country in 2021 (based on a three-year average) after last year’s Russian invasion, but the study notes that charity has risen to record levels in the country. In contrast, philanthropy in Russia declined significantly, falling from 60th place to 70th place between 2021 and 2023.
