Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, has sued an Indian battery manufacturer with the same name. Tesla wants the Indian company to stop using the name “Tesla Power” as soon as possible.
Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company Tesla has sued Indian company Tesla Power India for trademark infringement. According to the news served by Reuters, Tesla wants the Indian company to immediately stop advertising its products using the name “Tesla Power” despite the cease and desist letter issued in 2022.
The Indian company, on the other hand, claims that it was founded much earlier than Tesla and that it is engaged in the production of lead acid batteries and has nothing to do with electric vehicles. The Delhi High Court gave the Indian company 3 weeks to prepare its defense.

Tesla also says that the Indian company has a website called Tesla Power USA, which shows the headquarters in Delaware. By the way, Tesla is also registered in Delaware because it offers some advantages, especially tax.
A Tesla Power representative told Reuters that they started operating in India long before Tesla and have all the official permits. “We have never claimed to be affiliated with Elon Musk’s Tesla,” the official, Manoj Pahwa, told Reuters.
The next hearing will take place on May 22.
