Short History of Siirt

In 3000 and 2000 BC, the southeastern Taurus separated two cultural areas from each other. In the south, there was a developed agricultural culture in Mesopotamia, and in the north, a culture based on primitive agriculture and animal husbandry in the high plateau of eastern Anatolia. After the Battle of Malazgirt, Turks started to settle in Anatolia and small Turkish states were established against the request of the Great Seljuk State. The Siirt region was under the rule of Hasankeyf Artuklu. The nomadic Turkmen of the Artukids settled in the region, and the Artuklu lords and soldiers formed the core of Turkification in the cities. During the Republican era, Siirt was a place far from limited trade routes, even with neighboring provinces. The transformations carried out in the first years of the Republic had little effect on the region, and the traditional, social and cultural structure was preserved for a long time.
