Redfall PS5 Release Canceled ‘by Microsoft’

Not surprising to many, Arkane Studios has announced that a PS5 version of Redfall was in development at one point but was eventually canceled.

According to an interview with IGN France, Smith said the game never had a full PS5 version due to the fact that Bethesda and Arkane’s parent company, ZeniMax, was acquired by Microsoft in 2021 and is a subsidiary of Xbox Game. As a result, Smith said the change ordered the team at Arkane Austin to focus more on PC, Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass after Deathloop.

Social media expressed little surprise at Redfall’s lack of PS5 support, and some said it was inevitable given that a Microsoft subsidiary would be more focused on its ecosystem unless otherwise noted. While news about the game won’t affect other Bethesda titles like The Elder Scrolls 6, only time will tell if games like Starfield will be just the beginning of Bethesda’s full commitment to the Xbox ecosystem.
