President Erdogan: We will never leave the square to those who walk with terror
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gave a message of fight against terrorism at the opening ceremony of Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s new runway. Stating that the old Turkey, where the politics of the country was shaped by terrorism, is now behind us, Erdoğan said, “The shelf life of the plans to divide our nation through terrorist attacks is over. We will never allow 85 million people’s brotherhood to be attacked and discord to be sown among us. We will never leave the square for those who walk with terror.”

Erdoğan stated that with the opening of the new runway, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport will reach the capacity to host more than 85 million passengers annually.
Erdoğan also gave remarkable anti-terrorism messages at the opening ceremony and said, “You have tried everything in the last 21 years. You resorted to every means, but you could not set a barrier to our blessed journey. We will never leave the square for those who walk with terror. You have been disappointed many times in the last 21 years. God willing, you will lose again. You will not be able to avoid being disgraced and humiliated once again. We know very well who you are.”

Over time, we see that the airport had difficulty in meeting the increasing air and passenger traffic.
We have commissioned the new terminal building. Sabiha Gökçen International utilization rate and passenger traffic are constantly increasing. In 2021, our airport hosted 25 million passengers with approximately 181 thousand domestic and international flight traffic. In 2022, this number reached 31 million passengers. In 2023, with 208 thousand flight traffic in the first 11 months of the year, the number of passengers increased to 34 million compared to the same period last year.
“3RD AIRPORT WITH THE HIGHEST PASSENGER TRAFFIC”
Today, Sabiha Gökçen is the third airport with the highest passenger traffic after Istanbul Airport and Antalya Airport. We expect the number of passengers to exceed 37 million by the end of the year.
We took the decision to build the second runway in 2012, then started work and completed the second runway with a total investment of 970 million dollars.
The length of the runway, which will double the traffic capacity, is 3540 meters. There are 3 parallel taxiways of 3520 meters, 3000 meters and 2700 meters in length.
In order to ensure maximum capacity in terms of air traffic, we will use the new runway for landing and the old runway for take-off. The new runway will double the airport traffic.

With the commissioning of the new runway, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport will reach an annual capacity of more than 85 million passengers.
5 AWARDS FOR ISTANBUL AIRPORT
Istanbul Airport, which they resorted to street terror, including the Gezi protests, to block, is one of the best airports in Europe and the world.

AIRPORT PROJECTS
We are adding new projects to further strengthen our air transportation infrastructure.
We aim to open Çukurova Airport next month. We will inaugurate Bayburt Gümüşhane Airport, whose infrastructure works have been completed, in 2025. Project works for Trabzon New Airport are ongoing. We are increasing Antalya Airport’s capacity from 35 million passengers to 80 million passengers annually.
