Pinterest Takes a Step to Make the Plus Size Fashion World Happy!
Visual search engine Pinterest has updated its algorithms. There is no longer a need for extra terms in searches. Here are the details about the update!
Plus Size and Wedding Algorithm
The latest update aims to increase the visibility of plus-size fashion and other styles that highlight a wider range of body shapes. With these changes, searches for women’s fashion and wedding looks will return results with a more diverse range of body types, she said.
Annie Ta, Pinterest’s head of inclusive products, said the changes stemmed from the realization that many users were adding “descriptions and qualifiers” to their queries to find the styles that best fit their needs.
Ta said Pinterest’s algorithm was trained on more than 5 billion images and videos on the platform to detect and categorize different body shapes and sizes. Now users can browse styles without adding extra search terms like “curvy” or “plus-size.”
Ta says the representation of different body types in search results for women’s fashion has more than quadrupled since the algorithmic tweaks were implemented. While the changes are limited to women’s fashion and wedding-related content for now, he said the company is considering expanding body type representation to other categories.
