Oil Tanker Exploded in Thailand; 1 Dead, 4 Missing

There was an explosion in an oil tanker anchored in the river. 1 person died in the explosion, 2 people were injured. A search and rescue operation was initiated for the 4 missing crew members.

A violent explosion occurred at around 09:30 local time on the tanker, which was anchored in the Mae Klong River in Samut Songkhram province in the south of Thailand.

The explosion in the tanker, which was learned to be loaded with oil, was also felt in the surrounding areas.

Phuriphat Thirakhunphisuth, Deputy Director General of the Thai Maritime Administration, reported that 1 sailor was killed and 4 crew members disappeared during the explosion.

A search and rescue operation was initiated to find the missing crew.

Cause of Explosion Unknown

Thirakhunphisuth stated that with the violence of the explosion, the windows of a house in the vicinity exploded and 2 people were injured.

Thirakhunphisuth said that the fire that broke out after the explosion was brought under control before it grew, and that investigations into the incident are continuing.

On the other hand, the cause of the explosion is still unknown.
