Short History of Niğde
Niğde city remained under Hittite rule for 1000 years from 1800. B.C. With the end of the Hittite sovereignty by the Assyrians in 710 BC, the region passed to Assyrians and then to the Phrygians. Until the arrival of the Romans in the region in 17 AD, the Medes, Persians, the Hellenistic Cappadocia Kingdom of Alexander and the Kingdom of Pergamon continued. When the Roman Empire split into two in AD 395, Niğde remained within the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) lands.
