New Leak on iOS 18 Artificial Intelligence Features: Which Apps Will It Come to?
A new leak has emerged about the artificial intelligence features that Apple aims to bring to its devices with iOS 18. Here are the details!
Rumors about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 series and potential AI integration with iOS 18 have been non-stop. Thanks to a leak from Apple Insider, the AI features Apple is working on were revealed today.
According to the leak, AI improvements are planned for Apple’s core iOS apps – Safari, Spotlight Search, Siri, Mail and Messages. The most important of these seems to be a new on-device large language model (LLM) called “Ajax”.
What Will the On-Device Large Language Model (LLM) Provide?
This system will be able to quickly generate complete sentences in response to user input. Ajax will reportedly analyze the text and offer multiple possible responses, as well as sort them by accuracy and relevance.
It is also rumored that the new LLM will be able to identify keywords and phrases to create summaries in Safari and the Messages app. Safari will also feature “Smart Search” in iOS 18, allowing users to get short summaries of web pages.
Of course, Siri will also benefit from artificial intelligence. The report suggests that the voice assistant can offer simplified summaries or responses based on message content.
While all of these tasks will be performed on-device, more complex tasks such as creative text generation or in-depth analysis may still rely on some cloud processing. Apple is rumored to be exploring partnerships with OpenAI and Google for such tasks. Still, Apple Insider says Apple is largely focused on users’ privacy and is looking for ways to minimize cloud-based operations.
WWDC is just around the corner and Apple is likely to officially unveil these AI-powered features during the conference.
