Netflix Begins Work on Large-scale Games
Netflix, which has recently established a game department, once again showed how serious it is with its recent job posting. The acclaimed streaming platform is looking for someone to lead work on “a brand new AAA (high-profile gaming) video game” in Los Angeles.
This position requires experience in first- and third-person shooters, ever-evolving “online” games, as well as rapid prototyping on the Unreal Engine. The job posting also emphasizes ‘building a world worthy of Netflix’.
Expectations from Netflix in this regard are quite high. Chacko Sonny, former Overwatch director, leads Netflix’s gaming department. The company has also opened a studio in Helsinki and has acquired a number of developers, including Night School Studio, the creator of Oxenfree.
Netflix has made many attempts to develop games recently. Significant breakthroughs are expected in the near future. It will not be surprising that an initiative for FPS games, which has been very popular lately, comes from the company.
On the other hand, even less than 1% of its subscribers participate in the company’s mobile games. On the other hand, the games that the company will develop for other platforms can help Netflix reach more people as well as earn significant money.
Netflix has recently made significant investments in the gaming industry. It seems that the company’s investments will continue in the coming period. So what do you think about Netflix stepping into the computer game industry? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
