The university is one of the oldest universities of Turkey which was established on 1882. The first high school, art and architecture institutions in Turkey, in 1928, took the name Academy of Fine Arts and thus became the first higher education institution in Turkey academy title. The Academy of Fine Arts gained scientific autonomy in 1969, with the adoption of the State Fine Arts Academies Law No. 1972. The university administration changed its name to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University with the decision taken December 2003. Today, the university continues its education activities with 6 faculties.
The central campus is located in Findikli. Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University has also campuses in Besiktas and Bomonti regions. The university is famous for its Faculty of Architecture which is located in the central campus. There are also Fine Arts Faculty and Instutite and Sciences Faculty. There are many social facilities and activities organized in the central campus.
It’s possible to find both public or private dormitories around the university. Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University has its own dormitory for girls. You can find private dormitories or rental houses in Beyoglu and Besiktas districts to reach to the university.
Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University has English prep. school program before starting undergraduate programs. Students who are successful in the preparatory exemption exam do not need to study in the preparatory class.
In Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, together with the Central Library, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Library, the Istanbul State Conservatory Library, the Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum Library, Prof. There are 6 libraries in total, namely Sami SEKEROGLU Cinema-TV Center Library and Vocational School Library.
