Microsoft continues to investigate how Chinese hackers were able to steal a Microsoft account consumer signing key (MSA) and use it to target multiple email accounts belonging to businesses and government agencies in the West.
The breach allowed hackers identified as Storm-0558 to gain access to sensitive data. The attack is believed to be the work of Chinese state-backed individuals and could give China an advantage in its geopolitical conflicts.
U.S. government agencies, including the State Department and the Department of Commerce, were also among those affected by the deficit.
Microsoft Hackers’ Number One Favorite
Microsft has since fixed the issue and contacted affected organizations, but Mcrosoft has still not been able to address the root cause of the issue. After these events, experts emphasized the need for layered security measures to combat such advanced cyber attacks.
While Mcrosoft has recently come to the fore with its security vulnerabilities, it has also become the number one target of various ransomware hacker groups .
