Medical Expenses of International Protection Holders in Turkey?

Firstly, you should know that legal presence of a foreigner in Turkey is a prerequisite for benefiting from health services. For this reason, a foreigner who takes refuge in Turkey must be an international protection holder or an international protection applicant and an identification number starting with 99 must be given to him/her. Foreigners, who are legally examined in any health institution in Turkey, can only take the drugs prescribed by the doctor and determined within the scope of the Health Practice Communiqué from the pharmacies with which they have an agreement, free of charge. In addition, in cases where the prescribed drug is not in the pharmacy stocks, equivalent medical application may occur and if there is a price difference in the newly purchased drug, this difference can be demanded from the foreigner.

Prescription applications are usually prepared in public hospitals with a barcode in electronic environment. If the prescription has been given to the foreigner in written form, the foreigner must have this document with them when buying medicine from the pharmacy. In addition, it is very important to have the foreigner’s identity document starting with 99 with the foreigner.
