LG unveiled a line of flexible, wearable displays at Seoul Fashion Week. According to LG Display, the company’s display unit, the displays can stretch, fold and bend freely.
LG Display first introduced flexible prototype displays in 2022. These 12- to 14-inch displays were capable of displaying the full spectrum of colours, offering a pixel density of 100 ppi at the level of a normal monitor.
Could revolutionise the fashion and wearable technology industry
Presented at fashion week, the flexible displays were placed on the front of garments designed by Korean designers Youn-Hee Park and Chung-Chung Lee, on the sleeves and on the outside of handbags, and displayed by models on the catwalk.
These new thin, lightweight and flexible displays have the potential to revolutionise the fashion and wearable technology industry. The project was first launched in 2020 by the South Korean government to identify the commercial potential of flexible displays and LG Display was selected as the project organiser. Since then, the company has been conducting research and development activities in collaboration with various educational institutions and industry players. Now that flexible displays have become a reality, the company plans to further develop its capabilities before finalising the project this year.
