Sultangazi is located in the European side of İstanbul with more than half million population. The district is adjacent to Gaziosmanpaşa, Esenler, Başakşehir and Eyüp districts. Sultangazi gained district status in 2008. The Alibeyköy Dam, which meets a significant part of the drinking water requirement of the region, is located in this district.
