Readers of the travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler voted Istanbul Airport “the best airport in the world”
Conde Nast Traveler, the travel and life magazine of Conde Nast, one of the world’s leading publishing groups, which is considered an authority on luxury travel and a guide and inspiration for travelers, announced the results of the “Readers’ Choice” survey, one of the prestigious awards of Conde Nast Traveler, which is held regularly every year.
As a result of the survey, Istanbul Airport ranked first in the “World’s Best Airports” list.
A ceremony was held at Istanbul Airport for the first place achieved.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mehmet İlker Haktankaçmaz, Istanbul Airport’s Chief Administrative Officer, said: “To be deemed worthy of an award as a result of the evaluation made by the readers, the users of this airport, and to be ranked first in the world, of course, has a very special significance. It is now necessary to accept that the awards İGA has received today, the award we are presenting today, and the awards it has received before are not accidental awards. This airport is one of the vision projects of this country, especially when considered together with its immediate surroundings. It is one of the projects and works that will play a very big role in the future of this country.”
Haktankaçmaz thanked both the employees of the public institution and İGA employees under the leadership of Kadri Samsunlu for their efforts in winning the award.
“240 THOUSAND PEOPLE VOTED”
Kadri Samsunlu, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of İGA Airport Operation, said that their most important goal at Istanbul Airport, which was inaugurated on October 29, 2018, is to ensure a flawless operation and provide passengers with an unforgettable experience.
Stating that they are walking towards these targets together with their stakeholders with the performance they have shown since then, Samsunlu continued as follows:
“Today, Istanbul Airport, together with Turkish Airlines, our flag carrier and Turkey’s biggest brand, continues to become a brand in its own right. We attach great importance to the Conde Nast Traveler magazine readers’ survey. Because the voters here consist of people who read the Conde Nast group’s magazines and follow them on social media. In this election, 240 thousand people voted, and as a result, we won the status of the best airport in the world this year in the list where we were second last year. We are very happy about this.”
Reminding that Conde Nast Traveler magazine has been conducting this survey for 25 years, Samsunlu said:
“We can consider this survey as one of the most prestigious and longest running in the tourism and aviation industry today. We are very happy to receive this award. We have received many awards so far, and it really honors us that a large cluster of 240 thousand people has given us this status. At this airport, we are always looking ahead. As we look ahead, we aim to build an ecosystem of diversified and personalized experiences. We aim to ensure that our passengers take with them an unforgettable memory, an experience that they will never forget when they leave this airport and hand their passengers over to Turkish Airlines.”
Explaining that they have created many groups for this segmentation so far, Samsunlu said, “The services we offer to children and families. For our guests over 65 years of age, we have created a friendly airport, a pet-friendly airport, a barrier-free and accessible airport, as well as a special lounge for our young people. We collect feedback from 19 different channels.”
Pointing out that today İGA is at the forefront in Europe as the most resilient airport, Samsunlu said, “In addition, we were not affected by the serious delays experienced in Europe in the summer this year, as there were no reasons caused by us at this airport. As of today, we have reached approximately 300 thousand flights. We have exceeded 48 million passengers.”
Samsunlu thanked everyone who contributed to this success and stated that they will continue to perform and achieve very important successes in 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
The ceremony was attended by Hüseyin Ağca, Istanbul Airport Security Branch Manager, State Airports Authority and Directorate General of Civil Aviation executives and some employees.
